NCC Newsletter Summer 2016
NEWS & NOTES
Summer 2016 at NCC is very busy! We are out and about in our community on field trips and working together with local organizations. Our overarching theme is in full swing, as we are exploring all there is to learn about life under the sea! Next week, the New England Aquarium brings its traveling Tide Pool to NCC.
The weather has been sunny and hot. Our youngest children are staying cool with water tables and sprinklers. Back in our classrooms, it’s always nice to relax and read in our soft areas with books and friends. Our older children have visited Rosemary Pool a few times. We have also been to Boston on the train to go to The Children’s Museum, The Boston Fire Museum, and Castle Island. Locally we are walking for ice cream or stopping to play at Greenfield, enjoying pizza lunches, and taking trips to the pottery place for painting with friends.
Our PreK children teamed up with the Charles River Center from Needham this week. They worked with Mike Bolio and a few of the students from the Charles River Center to plant their very own garden salad! Check out their hard work on the PreK plyground. Everyone is very excited to add this to our snack time menu!
Everyone looks great in their summer t-shirts! Please continue to wear them on Fridays and when we are out and about. Our Summer Program kids have received a lot of compliments!!!!
Our teachers are always busy continuing to take professional development trainings; yes even in the summer and continue to work together to create an enriching and fun atmosphere for our little learners!
NCC was just relicensed and our report came back with wonderful comments. She was impressed with our developmentally appropriate curriculum and classroom design as well as our safety procedures and friendy atmosphere. Thank you for helping us make NCC what it is!
We hope to see everyone on Wednesday, August 10th at Rosemary Pool for our 5th Annual Family Swim Night! We will provide desserts, drinks, and lots of Olympic Fun! This is always a great night to have the children cool off and spend time with other NCC families.
Thank you to all of our senior highschool assistants; Allie, Izzy, Libby, Rose, and Fareha Best of luck! You are the best!

The infant room having so much fun in the sun this summer! July brings us many beach and water themed activities. The children love putting on their bath
ing suits to splash around in the water table. The children will also enjoy traveling around town, visiting the train station, and mailing a letter at the post office. August is dedicated to life under the sea! The children will be discovering new and exciting creatures that live in the ocean. They will learn about Blue Tangs (Dory) and clownfish (Nemo) and lots of other colorful sea life. In honor of the Summer Olympics, we’ll be having our own Olympic events that include: crawling races, rolling contests, and a baby obstacle course! We hope everyone has a happy and safe summer! Stay Cool!
The toddlers have been having a fabulous summer! They have been engaging in exciting summer activities and exploring our overarching theme of Under The Sea! We will be learning about the sun, the beach, and camping. We had a blast making sand castles and backpacks and everyone loved a good game of Beach Bingo! We have been staying cool by playing in the water tables and sprinklers. We love to see what can float and sink and to use sorting cups to fill and pour. Splashing is always a huge hit as well. We will be out and about in our buggy walking around town so if you see us make sure to say hi! Toddlers will be taking a walk to Junction to see what the train looks like and while there get a special ice cream treat.
We look forward to seeing everyone at Rosemary on the August 10th for Family Swim Night!!
Summer at Preschool is infull swing as we are spending as much time as we can outdoors, with water play, arts and crafts, physical fitness, and relaxing under a shady tree. We have taken many walking local trips to the Junction train station for ice cream, Green’s Field, Pizza Lunch, library trips, and our big trip to the Boston Children’s Museum by train! In the next few weeks, we will head to the Kids Place to paint our very own Pottery!
This summer, our overarching theme is Under The Sea. Check out our cool art projcets and other activities we have worked hard on around our classrooms and out on the playground
Summer 2016 has shaped up to be quite the exciting adventure in our pre-kindergarten classrooms! We kicked the summer off with trips to Greene’s Field, outdoor water-play, and best of all, our ‘under the sea’ theme and other adventurous summer curriculum! The pre-kindergarteners begin the majority of their summer days running through sprinklers and pretending to be ocean explorers during water-play. They then return to their classrooms for fun and exciting projects! Our pre-kindergarteners have been exploring camping in their own classrooms, even taking turns roasting marshmallows over the ‘fire’ and taking turns resting inside of real tents! As the summer continues, we will continue our adventure by exploring beach ecosystems, becoming deep-ocean explorers, and even discovering new and exciting ocean animals. Of course, we will partake in many picnics, nature walks, fieldtrips, special visitors, and best of all MANY popsicles to finish off our exciting days.
Pre-kindergarten continues to look forward to the summer adventures to come. Throughout the coming weeks, Pre-k will partake in multiple fieldtrips to Rosemary Pool to swim with their friends and teachers. They will also visit the Capron Zoo, where they will partake in an exciting animal scavenger hunt… can pre-k see all of the animals on their list?! Pre-k also looks forward to participating in a special gardening project with The Charles River Center at our school, and to learn a new thing or two about planting! NCC also excitedly awaits a visit from The New England Aquarium, when we will be able to meet real tide pool animals in our own school! Pre-k is preparing for this visit by learning about various ocean animals, and we anxiously await their arrival!
We have been having a great time at camp so far! The first week we took the commuter rail into Boston and went to the Fire Museum. We got to try on a fireman’s hat (it was SO heavy!) and sit behind the wheel of an old fire truck. We also had Little Chefs come to NCC and teach us how to make turkey burgers, veggie burgers, sweet potato fries, and cannolis. Everything was delicious! The second week, we went to Castle Island and ate lunch at Sullivan’s. We got to swim in to water, play on the playground, and we went site seeing around the fort. It was a blast! That week we also went to Legoland and saw the Lego giraffe, models of Boston, Fenway, and Gillette Stadium. We also went on rides and saw the 4D movie! Everything was awesome! This week, we went to the Lowell Spinners game! We had awesome seats and after the game we got to run the bases. The Spinners won 7-0! We also went to Glow Golf in Wellesley. It was cool with our dye tie shirts and glow in the dark bracelets. We even got to do the laser maze!
The rest of the summer should be a lot of fun too! We are going to Launch, Jump n Slide, Beaver Brook Sprinkler Park, Blue Hills, Capron Zoo with Pre-K, and Kids Place, just to name a few. In addition to that we have fun art projects like sand art, decorating canvas bags, and making animal puppets and pinwheels. Plus, we go to Rosemary Pool every morning for swim lessons with our two guards and three days a week we go to Free Swim. Everyone is making a lot of progress! We look forward to showing everyone around on Family Swim Night, Wednesday, August 10th. SEE YOU THERE!
